Abstract
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another which could either be permanent or temporal.
The study investigated the resultant effects of rural-urban migration to national development with a particular focus on the South western part of Nigeria. It analyzed the causes of rural-urban migration, past efforts of the government in reducing the rate of rural-urban migration in these areas and the socio-economic factors influencing rural-urban migration. The study also reviewed existing literatures on rural-urban migration. Data were collected from the respondents through a structured questionnaire which was administered on Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti states; all in the southwestern part of Nigeria. The study identified lack of social infrastructure, neglect of the rural community, modernization and others as some of the factors responsible for rural-urban migration. The paper therefore proposes that for all round national development, the rural communities has to be developed to meet the standard of the urban centres in order to reduce the rate of rural urban
migration.

Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA)

Perit Vincent Cassar  B.Arch., FIHEEM, FICE, C.Eng., A.&C.E

                                                                                    CAA President 2016-2019    Country: Malta

 Overview

CAA is a membership organisation for professional bodies representing architects in Commonwealth countries. Formed in 1965 to promote co-operation for ‘the advancement of architecture in the Commonwealth’ and particularly to share and increase architectural knowledge, it currently has 36 members.

The Association is best known for its procedures for the validation of courses in architecture which convene international visiting boards to schools to assess courses against set criteria. This results in a list of qualifications recommended for recognition by members.

Under the umbrella of the Commonwealth CAA subscribes to its core values, and in particular, developmental support to the smaller and younger members. The Commonwealth network is increasingly valued as a means of accelerating improvement in the world’s living conditions and to ensure a sustainable future for the planet. The built environment has a key part to play and CAA works to ensure the maximum participation of the architectural profession at all levels.

Connections of benefit are required in a globalising world and the value of CAA is sustained by the commonalities of the network; the use of a common language and a shared heritage in the practice and education of architecture.
