RESEARCH RECORDS

 His Master of Science thesis, titled “The Waterside People” was study of squatter settlement in Port-Harcourt and proposal for the improvement and upgrading of this settlement.

In 1979 he participated in a construction workshop in Acrosanti, Arizonal, USA, where he acquired expertise in pre-cast constructions methods under a renowned international architect, Paolo Soleri.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

Mr. Tonye Oliver has worked for various firms in Lagos, Port-Harcourt and Calabar as design, resident or supervising architect. Prominent among these are Braidarch Team, Port-Harcourt and Edfret Development Company, Calabar. He has had close association with Landmark Associates Lagos and Archvirons Design Associates, before setting up his own practice OLIVER BRAIDE & ASSOCIATES. Some of his major clients have been NNPC, Mobil Producing Nigeria Oil limited, Cross Rivers State Property Development And investment Limited, Government of Cross Rivers State, The Nigerian Army, The Nigerian Navy and The Nigerian Telecommunications PLC.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

 From 1983 to 1987 Mr. Braide lectured at the Department of Architecture, The Polytechnic, Calabar, now Cross River state University of Technology. He specialized in the teaching of the following courses:

· History of European Architecture. ( byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance).

· History of Nigerian Architecture

· Landscape and Urban Design.


CONTRIBUTIONS TO ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION

 Arc. Braide was involved in all aspects of academics work in these subjects including the development and constant re-evaluation of the curriculum. This resulted in his appointment develop the curriculum and serve as an Examiner for the Nigerian Institute of Architects Special Finals Examination in History of Architecture and Landscape Architecture from 1986 to 1993.

Over the past ten years, Braide has worked as a consultant to several Government Agencies and has acquired expertise in sourcing and managing development Finance for Local Government and Municipal Councils.

He has personally been involved in the procurement of International Development Consultancy Services in:-Housing development, and Facilities Management.


EXPERIENCE IN URBAN DESIGN

 · Development of proposals for the Redevelopment of slum/ Squatter Settlements in Port Harcourt Waterside Area , Rivers state

· Development of a master plan for the development of idebe Road Housing scheme, Iknot Nakanda, Akpabuya LGA, Cross River State

· Design of New Water Front and Modern Market for Ikang, Akpabuyo LGA. Cross River State

· Design of Housing Scheme at Abounchichie, Bekwarran LGA, as a Stimus Project to effect the Urbanisation of traffic interchange.

· Development of Earth Construction methods to establish an Appropriate Technology Model for Housing Construction in Bekwarra LGA, Cross River State.

· Development of implementation Plan for Urban Renewal in Calabar, Ugep, Ikom,Ogoja and Obudu.

· Serving on a special Cross River Government Task Force as a Secretary and Resource Person in Urban Renewal and Transformation of 5 Cities.

· Design of Modern Daily market for Ajassor Border town, Etung LGA as an economic stimulus program to make indigenes benefit from the ADB Trans Africa Highway. Between Nigeria and Cameroun.

· Landscape Design and Upgrade to Ikom Local Government Offices and precincts, Ikom, Cross River State.

· Preparation of Master plan for the Upgrade and development of tourism, Commercial expansion and Rural transformation of Bekwarra LGA, Cross River State.

· Design of Trailer Park, Muti-Modal Traffic Interchange, Housing Estate and Urban Upgrade for Odukpani Junction, Cross River State.

· Master Plan for Development of 108N0. Unit staff Housing Project for National Planning Commission, Abuja.

· Design of ultra-Modern Office Complex for Cross River State Local Government Commission, Calabar.



PERSONAL LIFE

Architect Braide is married and has one daughter and spends his spare time visiting rural markets, collecting art and craft, designing furniture and reading books on general world History and pondering about the essence of life.

He has traveled to several countries which include: Canada, United states, Trinidad and Tobago, Ireland, Britain, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Italy, China, India, South Africa, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Algeria, Egypt, Dubai, Qatar, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroun, and Sierra Leone .
